"You're... you're not lying." "I'm not!" Fluttershy said. "The truth is... well, Twilight, I think... I... I think..." Fluttershy hesitated. "I love you." "Oh, Fluttershy..." Twilight breathed. "I love you too. I've loved you for a while now." "But..." Fluttershy faltered. "But what if I... I can't be your marefriend? I mean, we can't have sex, and... I-I don't think I'm ready to be a mother yet... I can't..." Fluttershy whimpered, and her eyes started to fill with tears. "I just... I just can't..." "Oh, Fluttershy," Twilight said, not wanting her friend to feel even more miserable. "I know you're scared. You're very young, and I'm almost twenty-seven, and I've been a lesbian for years now. I know I can't give you what you want, and I can't make you any promises, but... I really think you're a wonderful mare, and I don't want to lose you as a friend." Fluttershy wiped the tears from her eyes, sniffling and nodding. "I don't want to lose you as a friend either." "Neither of us want that," Twilight said. "I don't know if I can be your marefriend, but I'll never leave you hanging." Fluttershy looked at Twilight with the biggest, happiest smile Twilight had ever seen on Fluttershy's face. "Thank you, Twilight." Twilight smiled back at her and drew her marefriend into a big, warm hug, and kissed her cheek. "Thank you too, Fluttershy." They stayed in the hug for a long time, occasionally sharing a kiss and an occasional hug. Eventually, though, they had to pull away from each other, despite how much they both wanted to stay that way for a while longer. "Are you sure you're okay with this?" Fluttershy asked, her eyes downcast and her ears down. Twilight reached out and raised Fluttershy's head so she could look into her eyes. "I'm sure. You're a wonderful mare, Fluttershy, and I don't want to lose you. I just can't be your marefriend right now, but if you'll let me be your special somepony, I promise I'll be here for you if you ever change your mind." Fluttershy's eyes brightened up at that. "Oh, Twilight!" She wrapped her forelegs around Twilight's neck, pulling her into a big hug. Twilight held her tightly. "You don't have to tell me right away if you don't want to, you know. Just think about it, and let me know if you want to give us a try." "I will," Fluttershy said. "Thank you." She broke the hug and hugged Twilight again. "I'm so happy to be able to tell you this..." Twilight nuzzled Fluttershy gently. "I'm happy too. I promise, no matter what happens, I'll be there for you." "That's good," Fluttershy said, smiling. "You'd better be, if you want to keep my hoof in your ear." "I'll be there for you no matter what happens," Twilight said. Fluttershy smiled and nodded. "I know you will. Thank you so much, Twilight. I'm so happy I got to tell you this before the wedding." Twilight smiled. "You're welcome, Fluttershy." "Twilight," Fluttershy said softly. "I think I might be in love with you." Twilight's heart fluttered. "Really?" "I... yes." Fluttershy said. "It's so hard to say..." "I think I'm in love with you too, Fluttershy," Twilight said. "And I promise you, no matter what, I'll be there for you." "Oh, thank you so much!" Fluttershy said. "Thank you so much, Twilight. I'll be there for you too." They kissed, and Twilight held her lover tightly in her forelegs. "Do you want to, um... do you want to, um... you know... you know what I mean?" Fluttershy said softly. Twilight blinked, feeling her heart pounding a little harder. "Yes." Fluttershy nodded, and they kissed again. "I love you," Twilight said, giving Fluttershy another long, warm kiss. "I love you too, Twilight," Fluttershy said, and they embraced each other again. "This is beautiful!" Rarity said as she stood next to Twilight and Fluttershy, watching the two of them together. "What do you two think?" Twilight and Fluttershy smiled, and Fluttershy whispered, "I think this is wonderful." "Yeah," Twilight said. "This is very beautiful." Chapter 6: Interviews Twilight and Fluttershy left the wedding after the speeches had been given and the wedding party had ended. The newlyweds were now heading to a picnic that was being held at Sweet Apple Acres. Fluttershy had been thrilled to hear that her parents and the rest of her family were coming, and that they would be arriving later that day, once the picnic had started. "I can't wait to see them," Fluttershy said as they walked. "I'll be so happy to see them." "You will be," Twilight said. "Oh, and I can't wait to see what you've made for the picnic! I've been meaning to talk to you about that." "I'm glad you asked," Twilight said. "I've got something special planned for the picnic. It's a new recipe I've been working on." "You're working on a new recipe?" Fluttershy said. "Wow! What is it? What's it going to be? I don't even know what you're going to make." "Well, it's something I want to make for you," Twilight said. "There's something special I want to try for you, and I'm going to need your help to make it." Fluttershy turned to look at Twilight. "Really? What is it?" Twilight blushed a little. "Um... well, I'll tell you about it later, when we're not in public. If you want to know, though, we're almost there." Fluttershy smiled at her. "Oh. Okay, if you say so. I'll just have to wait." They arrived at Sweet Apple Acres and entered the barn where the picnic was being held. Applejack was the first to see them. "Hey, y'all," she said. "Yer just in time. We're about ta start settin' up the food." "We are?" Twilight said. "We're already here? Oh, shoot! Oh, I'm sorry, Applejack, I guess I've been so caught up in all the wedding preparations that I forgot that this is what we're here for." Applejack laughed and ruffled Twilight's mane. "Y'all don't need ta worry about anythin' like that. We got plenty ta do, anyway. Y'all're gonna hafta help us set up this here picnic." "We will?" Twilight said. "I guess we will, then." Applejack nodded. "We're gonna need some help settin' up the tables, and carryin' the food. If y'all can help with that, then we're all set." "That sounds great," Fluttershy said. "Good," Applejack said. "Well, y'all have fun, and let me know if y'all need anythin'. I can get a few other ponies ta help me out if y'all need it." "Okay," Twilight said. "Alright, y'all. Let's start movin' the tables over here." Applejack gestured with a hoof. "And Fluttershy, get in there and help me set 'em up. We'll set 'em up nice and even, and then ya'll can start carryin' the food over, one at a time." "Okay," Fluttershy said. Applejack led them over to the back of the barn, where there were a number of round tables already set up with cushions on them. "There we go," Applejack said. "Now, y'all can put the cushions down on the tables, and we'll put the food on it." "Sure," Twilight said, and she and Fluttershy went to work on the tables. Twilight and Fluttershy put down the cushions on the tables, and then Applejack and Rarity took the food and started putting it on the tables. "I think that's all of it," Applejack said. "Twilight, Fluttershy, are ya ready to start carryin' things?" "Ready," Twilight said. "Yeah," Fluttershy said. Twilight and Fluttershy each took a plate with their magic and started taking the food out of the baskets and putting them on the plates. Applejack noticed Twilight carrying a plate with her magic, but didn't ask about it. She didn't want to get in the middle of their relationship if that was what it was
