The overheads are increasing, and the donations are decreasing. If you want this site to stay around, and maintain the speed & quality of the transcripts, you should probably do something...

There are Users, Quality Visitors and Supporters. Which one are you?

Users generally think only of themselves. Sneak in, get what they want, and sneak out again. The abUsers (sub-set) are usually discovered and banned, often sooner than later. We cannot support this type of person, and I don't expect you to either.

Quality Visitors are people that value this site, and we are always glad to see. If you are a regular, please consider donating the amount of a cup of coffee once in a while? A thank-you email also goes down well — and this keeps me going — but it does not pay the bills...

Supporters like this site so much, they want to make sure not only that it remains around for them but also that everyone is happy. They are often generous people, but only for a good reason. Appreciation is always mutual.

This year (2023) I need to completely rewrite the software from scratch. A daunting task. There have been so many modifications over the years, that I forget them all! Needs are caused by having to keep up with server software changes. I also need to move the site to another host. Being on an American hosting does not enable it to be fully compliant with e.g. E.U. and U.K. laws of GDPR. This site works around this by not allowing public logins. Additionally, my ancient computer has been suffering hardware issues for a long time and cannot be relied on for much longer. I've decided to try to purchase a powerful laptop, by the end of the year, to replace my desktop and old Vista-vintage laptop. In theory, this should save electricity, among other things.

I researched different donation systems. Not only do they all have fees, most sit on top of PayPal. There are also issues with trust and longevity. In spite of PayPal taking a large chunk of any donation, this seems the least of all evils.

Splitting donations between site upkeep and a laptop seems to be the simplest way to handle things. A donation of $15 or less goes towards site upkeep. A donation more than $15 goes towards a laptop. I will manually keep a tally of laptop donations on this page. Please allow me up to 2 days to do this.

All donations over $5 receive a personal thank you email. If you do not receive this, please check your spam folder. (If I have emailed you more than 3 times without any response, I will stop, because I figure you are not reading/receiving them.)

Thank you for reading.
